With the Sitzmaschine, Wittmann enriches the Recreation Hoffmann with a particularly prominent member. Josef Hoffmann originally designed the geometrically functional model in 1905 as a one-off piece. As more and more contemporaries recognized its aesthetic added value, it was produced in series from 1908 to 1916. The square rods were particularly unusual: one of Thonet's sons had developed this sophisticated technique. Wittmann now revives it - in the same precise curvature. From an art-historical point of view, it is interesting that the seat machine with its "strict" design anticipated some of Rietveld's equally famous red and blue chair.
