Constanze 3/4 Sofa

Design:  Johannes Spalt (1960)

The term "timeless" applies to this design from 1960 like few others. The models were reissued by Wittmann with uncompromising attention to detail to ensure that all their striking design features were retained.

Wittmann and Johannes Spalt enjoyed a friendly and exceptionally productive collaboration spanning decades, which had a lasting and trailblazing impact on the company. 1960 saw the creation of Spalt’s “3/4” furniture under his first project with Wittmann, which can be seen as a significant reference work for his approach. It comprised an armchair, a footstool and a matching side table. The name is derived from the nickname of Working Group 4 – founded in 1950 by Spalt and his fellow architects Friedrich Kurrent, Wilhelm Holzbauer and Otto Leitner. After Leitner's departure, a trio remained that was charmingly called "the 3/4-ers". As a designer, Spalt aimed for “intelligent furniture that fosters good design for living”. Wittmann is using the new edition of the 3/4 furniture to give this philosophy enduring impact.
