Project description

The new residence undermines the traditional monumentality of an embassy and represents an oasis in a garden. Constructed as a pavilion it has been designed with its occupants in mind, elegantly blurring the line between the formal and the informal. Official areas merge seamlessly into private spaces when they are not in use. The architects have succeeded in conveying a sense of freedom with their design. In the salon, the OYSTER leather chairs by WITTMANN Möbelwerkstätten, which Jörg Boner designed for the company in 2014, and the Servomuto side tables by Zanotta are casually arranged around a large carpet by Swiss textile designer Christoph Hefti and are reminiscent of the tradition of the majlis - an Arabic term for living room.

“The idea of the three chosen leather colours represents a connection to the outdoor area, because thanks to the glass pavilion you can look out into a wonderful, leafy garden. The colours harmonise with the green of the plants and the earthy tones of the garden soil.”
